Funding boost for Perth rivers
LOCAL groups will receive $400,000 in grants to help protect the Swan and Canning River system as part of the Australian Government’s $1 million investment in the Swan Canning River Recovery Program through the National Landcare Program.
The grants were announced recently in Salter Point by Perth Natural Resource Management (NRM) and will help the rivers’ ecosystems through weed control, restoration and management of high priority foreshore and catchment areas.
Swan MHR Steve Irons said Perth NRM would support local groups to carry out important on- ground works to address some of the crucial environmental issues facing the region.
“Perth NRM has a proven track record in managing projects that consistently deliver good environmental outcomes in the Perth region,” he said.
The program is also controlling the problem water weed Hydrocotyle in the Canning River catchment.
