Retirees’ new ride

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

SINCE 2014, five retired standardbred racehorses have been gifted to Riding for the Disabled Association of WA (RDAWA) centres as part of Racing and Wagering WA’s Off the Track program.

The program works with RDAWA to source and provide retired standardbred racehorses to RDA centres across WA.

“It is a privilege for the WA racing industry to be able to support such an important program as RDA,” RWWA equine welfare officer Sharon Joyce said.

“It is wonderful to see the enjoyment these horses bring to the lives of so many children and adults living with disabilities.”

Murray Mandurah RDA is one of the centres gifted with a retired standardbred called Meet Me in Seattle, aka Douglas.

“We are very fortunate to have received Douglas; he has settled in so well and is used in many of our classes,” RDA and Murray Mandurah Centre president Belinda Brown said.
