SO we have a new Prime Minister. Our fifth in five years. Malcolm Turnbull has taken over from Tony Abbott and he seems intelligent, progressive and environmentally aware. Will he be the person to restore the public’s faith in politics and politicians? Well, it all comes down to trust. Trust is a key ingredient in most successful relationships. As it turned out, Mr Abbott’s colleagues did not trust him to lead them to the next election. The Australian public’s trust in Mr Abbott waned long before that. I think it stemmed from his decision to break elections promises and the tough 2014 budget. We all know politicians can break promises but I don’t think we expect them to do it as quickly and unashamedly as the last two governments. So Mr Turnbull, it’s over to you. We are prepared to give you a chance. We want you to be consultative. Someone we can respect. Here’s hoping.
