HE paints the beauty of his community in South Perth and now artist Dave Conlin has been commended for his watercolour interpretation of The Old Mill.

The South Perth resident’s painting of The Old Mill in South Perth won the Watercolour Society of WA Annual John Hadlow Plein Air Award, as voted by members of the society.

Conlin said he hoped to establish a name for himself in the world of En Plein Air, the French style of open air painting, and capture parts of the community around him.

“I specialise in open air water colour painting and can often be seen out and about painting local South Perth scenes such as Mends Street cafe, the Mends Street jetty and construction works on the Esplanade,” he said.

Conlin will be presented with his latest award at the opening night of the Watercolour Society of WA’s annual exhibition in October.

Six of his paintings will be on display at the exhibition and Conlin said he encouraged people to attend as he gives demonstrations and explanations about watercolour.
