LOCAL real estate icon Alan Bourke has walked away with Western Australia’s top real estate honour at this year’s REIWA Awards for Excellence.

Mr Bourke was presented the Kevin Sullivan Award – the Real Estate Institute of WA’s (REIWA) highest industry accolade – alongside John Percudani of Realmark.

“It was unusual to have a tie; the last time was about 20 to 30 years ago,” Mr Bourke said.

“We both joined the industry on April Fools’ Day so that gave us a good chuckle on the night.”

Mr Bourke said the award had humbled him.

“It is given to those with a good standing in the industry and focuses on what kind of giving back you have done for it and REIWA,” he said.

“It’s a role-model thing to look after yourself and the industry; it’s the ultimate recognition.”

Mr Bourke revealed he began his career with his uncle, Murray Nalder, and Kevin Sullivan Real Estate.

“In the 1970s he worked for Kevin Sullivan and now, with this award, it’s a lovely circular reference,” he said.
