Fit­ness course for kids

CHIL­DREN in Perth have the chance to join a free pro­gram fo­cus­ing on healthy eat­ing, pos­i­tive be­hav­iours and fun games and ac­tiv­i­ties for kids.

The 10-week Bet­ter Health Pro­gram is for chil­dren aged be­tween seven and 13 who are above a healthy weight.

Pro­grams will run at lo­cal leisure and com­mu­nity venues for two hours each week. As a com­po­nent of the WA Healthy Chil­dren’s Pro­gram, which is jointly funded by the West Aus­tralian and Aus­tralian Gov­ern­ments, the pro­gram is com­pletely free for fam­i­lies.

The pro­gram is tai­lored for over­weight chil­dren and their par­ents. Its aim is to help peo­ple un­der­stand and change un­healthy at­ti­tudes to­wards food and fit­ness.

Held in twice-weekly ses­sions and con­ducted by health and fit­ness pro­fes­sion­als, the pro­gram helps chil­dren be­come fit­ter, health­ier and hap­pier and de­liv­ers long-term health ben­e­fits.

Chil­dren join in fun phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity ses­sions de­signed to im­prove their self­con­fi­dence and self-es­teem as well as their phys­i­cal fit­ness.
