TOWN SO UNTIDY
WITH the council elections fast approaching we have scoured the election propaganda delivered and published, and searched the profiles to find any candidate who is prepared to take a stance on actually cleaning up our town.
We refer to the constant illegal verge dumping, litter and dumping of shopping trolleys. We began when we moved to the area, as we noticed how bad it was, by phoning the council. It could not do anything unless it had proof of the dumper.
We called City of South Perth and City of Stirling to ask about their policies and they are able and do warn and then fine people for illegal verge dumping.
Upon advising the Town of Victoria Park of these policies, it said it was going to put warning letters in homes of repeat offenders. This was promising, until we witnessed a ranger drive straight past verge dumping in our street.
In the hope of having more impact, we began sending photos of particularly bad instances in our street alone to the Town via Facebook.
After a few of these posts, we were given the number of the Town employee responsible for these rubbish collections who assured us if we sent photos to him of bad offences he would ensure they were dealt with.
Indeed they were after each of our communications, once again only of our immediate area, but we soon noticed no action was taken verge detectives, merely collecting the dumped items was having no effect without repercussions so we ceased.
Therefore, in a last-pitched effort to find a council or future council representative who will clean up our Town to maintain the value of our properties, we photographed instances only this week and only in the small section of our street between Albany Highway and Berwick Street on our side alone.
September 12 and 13 were the last official waste set out dates. There were many photos to download. PHIL and WENDY GRIMBLY, 44A Canterbury Terrace, East Victoria Park.
