Duffield gets Demons home in thriller
NEW recruit Ryan Duffield batted Perth Cricket Club to victory again, while South Perth are still searching for their first win after Saturday’s Round Two fixtures in the Premier Cricket Competition.
Perth triumphed in a thrilling run chase over Melville by three wickets at Fletcher Park, Carlisle.
Duffield, who crossed from Melville to Perth in the off-season after a stint in England, failed to fire with the ball but responded with the bat.
Chasing 209 for victory, the Demons were reeling at 7-128, before Duffield compiled a critical 49 not out from 44 deliveries.
He received good support from Shreyans Jain, who added 26 not out, as the pair put on 83 runs for the eighth wicket.
South Perth lost by three wickets to Bayswater-Morley at Richardson Park on Saturday.
Captain Hugh Brown led with 67 for the Sky Blues before some late-order hitting got the home side to a decent score of 7-205.
Simon Ringrose took 4-40 from 10 overs but the Bears reached the total in the last over.
