DETHRIDGE Groves Real Estate principal Hayden Groves was last week elected the Real Estate Institute of WA’s (REIWA) new president.

His election follows the departure of David Airey from the REIWA council after four years in the top job.

Originally from Victoria, Mr Groves moved to WA in 1993 after completing his studies at Monash University.

He subsequently married Perth local Philippa Colgan, bought a real estate business and is helping to raise four children.

Along with his triennial licence, Mr Groves holds an honours degree in politics, has studied law and is a licensed auctioneer.

He started as a sales representative with John Dethridge & Co, a long-standing and successful Fremantle-based agency.

Mr Groves has served on the REIWA council since 2010 and was elected deputy president in October, 2013. He is also the deputy president of the Real Estate Institute of Australia.

As the immediate pastpresident of the Real Estate Employer’s Federation of WA, Mr Groves has a particular interest in employer/employee relations.

Mr Groves paid tribute to Mr Airey, who helped establish a strong profile for REIWA in recent years.

“It’s clear that while the WA market will be relatively soft for the next year or so, I want to ensure that REIWA members and the general public get the best services and property information they can as they negotiate this uncertain period,” he said.
