Theft victim left rattled

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - News -

A SOUTH Perth jewellery shop owner says she was too scared to leave her house after her store was burgled and trashed.

Gordana Stamenkovic, the owner of Pearl Obsession at South Shore Piazza, was shocked to find her store trashed and near empty after a break-in on November 1.

Three looters gained entry to the store about 11pm that night, smashed all the glass cabinets and stole nearly all of the store’s merchandise.

“They came through and used the table to break the door and then broke all the glass cabinets in the shop,” Mrs Stamenkovic said.

“They took all my possessions, the pearls, pendants, bags, purses and the silver jewellery.”

While the physical damage to the family-owned business was astounding, Mrs Stamenkovic has been left with emotional scars.

“I’m scared to leave my house now, it’s ridiculous,” she said.

“I’m praying every day that we get the stuff back because they’ve put me out of business. “I can’t sleep, I can’t eat.” Mrs Stamenkovic said she was worried the theft would ruin her business.

“Insurance will cover some of it,” she said.

“I was hoping it would help more but unfortunately it’s mostly for fire damage.”
