OWNERS Paul and Julie Guilfoyle had a dream to build themselves a functional family home in a hard-to-beat location and that is exactly what they have done here.

“We had been looking in the area for some time,” they said.

“It is close to St Augustine’s Primary School, public transport, the city, bike paths, the Swan River and Burswood.”

Knocking down a 1920s fibro cottage that originally stood on the 683sq m block, the couple began construction in 2007.

“We have been able to build the property to a very high specification, which we believed was important as a home needs to be lived in and not just looked at,” the owners said.

Across more than 545sq m of living space, there are versatile areas on both levels.

The main casual living area, with stunning travertine flooring, is on the ground floor.

This is home to the topof-the-line kitchen, which features a central island bench with stainless steel benchtops, Corian tops on the other benches, and topend appliances including a Smeg steam oven, Miele ceramic five-burner gas cooker and Gaggenau self-cleaning oven.

Next to this, the dining room is wonderfully enhanced with a Jetmaster gas log fire and lovely views out to the back yard.

Outside, there is an alfresco dining area under the main roof with porcelain tiling and travertine paving, a patch of artificial turf, a Chemigem self-chlorinating pool with frameless glass fencing, a workshop with power, and a studio with a bathroom, airconditioning and its own alarm system.

Also on this level are a fully equipped home theatre room with projector, screen and surround sound system; a separate study; a powder room; laundry; walk-in undercroft storage or cellar; and the shopper’s entry from the 49sq m double garage.

On the first floor is a second living area also with a gas log fire that extends on to a 22sq m balcony.

Four bedrooms with built-in robes make up the rest of this level.
