Airport elements of Link approved

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - News -

THE Federal Government has approved the on-airport elements of the ForrestfieldAirport Link rail project to improve access to and from Perth Airport.

Swan MHR Steve Irons welcomed the approval and said it was the key to ensuring a link to the airport for commuters.

“The works will include twin-bored tunnels running east-west under the main runway and cross-runway and the construction of a new below-ground Airport Central Station with pedestrian linkages to existing and future terminals,” Mr Irons said.

“Without this part of the project, the rest of the Link won’t connect with the airport.”

Mr Irons said the number of international passengers was forecast to grow to about 8.6 million, while domestic passenger numbers would increase to 20 million.

“This project anticipates and caters for that growth,” he said.
