Hogg feasts on five wickets
FREMANTLE are in a tight tussle with Willetton after an even day one in Premier Cricket on Saturday at Stevens Reserve.
Evergreen Perth Scorchers spinner Brad Hogg lit up the fixture with five wickets in a dominant display, winding back the clock for Willetton.
Port Boys captain Ashton Turner was the mainstay for Freo, as batsmen struggled in the hosts’ total of 209.
Turner scored 75 with eight boundaries, while UK import Tom Abell managed 42 at the top of the order.
The Dragons finished at 2-38 at stumps, with Jamie Heath taking both wickets to continue his great start to the year, including the prize wicket of Western Warrior Cameron Bancroft.
Hogg, who turns 45 in February, was the story of the day, ripping through the Fremantle middle order to finish with 5-69 from 29 overs.
The veteran is tuning up for the Big Bash League, which starts for the Scorchers on Monday against the Adelaide Strikers at the WACA Ground.
