Hogg feasts on five wick­ets

FRE­MAN­TLE are in a tight tus­sle with Willetton af­ter an even day one in Premier Cricket on Satur­day at Stevens Re­serve.

Ev­er­green Perth Scorchers spin­ner Brad Hogg lit up the fix­ture with five wick­ets in a dom­i­nant dis­play, wind­ing back the clock for Willetton.

Port Boys cap­tain Ashton Turner was the main­stay for Freo, as bats­men strug­gled in the hosts’ to­tal of 209.

Turner scored 75 with eight bound­aries, while UK im­port Tom Abell man­aged 42 at the top of the or­der.

The Dragons fin­ished at 2-38 at stumps, with Jamie Heath tak­ing both wick­ets to con­tinue his great start to the year, in­clud­ing the prize wicket of Western War­rior Cameron Ban­croft.

Hogg, who turns 45 in Fe­bru­ary, was the story of the day, rip­ping through the Fre­man­tle mid­dle or­der to fin­ish with 5-69 from 29 overs.

The vet­eran is tun­ing up for the Big Bash League, which starts for the Scorchers on Mon­day against the Ade­laide Strik­ers at the WACA Ground.
