Community gets big say

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

COMMUNITY members in the Town of Victoria Park will have a bigger role in planning the future of the Town this year through a new project called Evolve.

Evolve takes a fresh approach to local government practices by asking the community for its opinions on what the Town’s vision for the future should be.

Legislation states each local government must prepare a set of strategic documents to guide future direction of the organisation, known as the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework.

Part of the Framework, the Strategic Community Plan is traditionally presented in draft form to the community for comment before being adopted by the council.

The Town of Victoria Park plans to turn the process on its head and ask the community to be involved from the start.

“We want to be able to have genuine and open conversations with the community about the areas where they feel they are being over- or underserviced, so we can understand the community’s priorities and expectations,” Mayor Trevor Vaughn said.

The intensive public participation will run from February to July.
