LEFT BEHIND IN LEFTOVERS
TWO local Como actors will take to the stage in a revival of award winning play The Leftovers at the Fringe World Festival.
Ron Arthurs and Richard Maganga will step into character to take part in the non-linear, verbatim piece of theatre that explores the lives of people who navigate their way through personal loss and grief.
Curtin University graduate and playwright Kyle Kash originally wrote The Leftovers in 2010.
Drawn and inspired from real interviews with local community members, Kash, under the tutelage of playwright Reg Cribb, was challenged to write about something he had little experience with or felt uncomfortable with.
“I wanted to write about death because I had recently lost three friends in a short period of time,” Kash said. “I wanted to honour their lives in the best way I knew how. But I also needed other perspectives and to know how other lives had been affected.”
The Leftovers has won several awards including the 2011 South-West Drama Festival Best Original Script, Best Production, Best Character Actor, Directors Certificate and the 2011 DramaFest Best Costumes.
