New merge lines for WA

A CHANGE in driver be­hav­iour cou­pled with new merge lines will make driv­ing on key Perth roads safer and less congested, ac­cord­ing to State and Fed­eral min­is­ters.

Min­is­ter for Ma­jor Projects, Ter­ri­to­ries and Lo­cal Govern­ment Paul Fletcher said new and bet­ter-de­fined con­ti­nu­ity merge lines be­tween free­way on-ramps and traf­fic lanes will be placed on Perth free­way on-ramps from this month.

The new merge lines are a traf­fic con­ges­tion man­age­ment pro­gram ini­tia­tive for Perth, and is one of nine projects re­ceiv­ing a to­tal of $499.1 mil­lion in Aus­tralian Govern­ment fund­ing un­der the WA In­fra­struc­ture Projects Na­tional Part­ner­ship.

State Trans­port Min­is­ter Dean Nalder said the im­prove­ments would take place over the next few months at all on­ramp merge points on the Kwinana and Mitchell free­ways.

The new merge lines will be com­pleted by April.
