ALL-FEMALE a cap- pella group Ginger and Tonic’s latest show, Desperate and Dateless with Ginger and Tonic, is Pitch Perfect meets Bridget Jones’s Diary meets Single White Female, according to singer Jane Patterson.

“We like to think of the show as dating via cabaret,” Patterson said.

“In 60 minutes the audience will get to know a lot about us and what we’re looking for and there will be plenty of opportunities for the audience to show us some love in return.

“We’ll sing a bunch of original songs, parodies and covers, all a cappella.”

Ginger and Tonic formed in 2010 with Patterson, her sister Sarah and their two friends before a few line-up changes to now comprise Patterson with Lisa Hanley, Laura Burzacott and Emma Rule.

“We met Laura through a cabaret festival in Melbourne when she was singing with another group,” Patterson said.

“Lisa joined Ginger and Tonic this year after she and I worked on Once together.”

The show took six months from initial concept to performance and was developed after the quartet’s realisation there was a running theme in their repertoire.

“We put together 10 minutes using songs we had based on a dating theme,” Patterson said.

“After that performance we expanded it to an hour. It was a theme that came naturally to us.”
