Rain de­nies vic­tory to South Perth

SOUTH Perth was un­able to com­plete a much­needed vic­tory as rain stopped the charge against Wan­neroo at Kingsway Sports Ground in Premier Cricket on Satur­day.

The en­tire se­cond day’s play was washed out, leav­ing the Sky Blues rooted to the bot­tom of the Premier Cricket lad­der.

South Perth had re­duced Wan­neroo to 4-42 af­ter mak­ing 189 with the bat on the first day, putting them­selves in a great po­si­tion to claim their first win in five games.

Else­where, Perth ben­e­fit­ted from the rain as they found them­selves in deep trou­ble against Bayswa­ter-Mor­ley be­fore the heav­ens opened at Fletcher Park, forc­ing a draw.

Perth was reel­ing at 5-54 in pur­suit of 279, los­ing 3-1 at one stage, with Ryan Duffield (11), Tom Casey (5) and Jake Lewis (0) fall­ing in quick suc­ces­sion. The re­main­der of the day was washed out mean­ing Perth stay en­trenched in­side the top six.
