Where the worst school zone speedsters are

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

BELMONT, Brentwood and Melville are among the five worst offending suburbs in Perth for speeding in school zones.

The unfortunate top five berth is a result of a combined 1241 infringements issued within the three suburbs’ various 40km/h school zones last year.

Most of the motorists fined were exceeding the speed limit by 10 to 19km/h. In one case in Belmont, a school zone speedster was clocked at more than 30km/h.

Meanwhile, Meadow Springs again topped the list as having the most school zone racers in Perth with 892 infringements – down from 2013 when the Mandurah suburb racked up a whopping 2043 fines around schools. Mandurah itself also had 300 fines last year.

Road Safety Minister Liza Harvey said school zone speeding had dropped over the past few years.

“We will continue getting the message out there that if you speed through a school zone, you are endangering the lives of children,” she said.
