New shed opens doors

A THREE-year ef­fort to es­tab­lish a men’s shed in Bel­mont will reach its crescendo this Satur­day as the lo­cal group of­fi­cially opens its shed door to the pub­lic.

In­spired by the growth of the na­tional men’s shed move­ment, a group of lo­cal blokes gath­ered in May 2013 with the vi­sion to cre­ate their own branch in Bel­mont.

They be­came the steer­ing com­mit­tee of the Bel­mont Men’s Shed Inc and this Satur­day they can de­clare mis­sion ac­com­plished.

The com­mit­tee has al­ready been in­volved in com­mu­nity events and fundrais­ing but this is the first time the group has of­fi­cially opened to the com­mu­nity.

City of Bel­mont Mayor Phil Marks will be there for the of­fi­cial open­ing.

The City cov­ered the rental costs of the fac­tory on Robin­son Av­enue the men’s shed now call their head­quar­ters.

There is also a com­puter fa­cil­ity to as­sist with ed­u­ca­tional pro­grams at the shed.
