Boost for young ac­tor

YOUNG Man­ning ac­tor Chanel Mar­riott is vy­ing for a pres­ti­gious award in the com­pany of a num­ber of world fa­mous stars.

Mar­riott (20) was nom­i­nated for Best Per­for­mance in a Fea­ture Film at the up­com­ing 37th An­nual Young Artist Awards for her per­for­mance in the con­tro­ver­sial pro-life drama Ali­son’s Choice.

Play­fully re­ferred to as the ‘Kid­die Os­cars’, the Young Artist Awards are young Hol­ly­wood’s an­swer to the Academy Awards to recog­nise young peo­ple in en­ter­tain­ment.

This year marks Mar­riott’s fourth con­sec­u­tive nom­i­na­tion, though 2016 will be her first in the fea­ture film cat­e­gory.

Along­side house­hold names like Abi­gail Bres­lin and Elle Fan­ning, Mar­riott ad­mit­ted she felt the she was the un­der­dog of the cat­e­gory.

“Ali­son’s Choice is an in­de­pen­dent film pro­duced with an in­die-sized bud­get,” she said.

“I am thrilled to be nom­i­nated along­side such pow­er­house ac­tors, but I am def­i­nitely the Rocky Bal­boa of the cat­e­gory.”

Born and raised in Perth, Mar­riott be­gan act­ing at age seven.

She re­lo­cated to LA in July 2011, adding more than 30 projects to her re­sume, in­clud­ing lead and sup­port­ing roles in fea­ture and short films, tele­vi­sion, pi­lots, web se­ries, com­mer­cials and stage shows.
