Surgery no small thing for Rumford

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - SPORT -

ROYAL Perth golf club member Brett Rumford has spent the past three months getting to know the course at Lake Karrinyup Country Club ahead of this week’s $1.75 million Perth International.

Rumford, who has focused on returning to good health and form in the past year following surgery to remove part of his small intestine, said he had been playing at the club regularly with members.

“Maybe more than I should be allowed to be,” he said at last week’s Perth International Media Golf Day.

“It’s (Karrinyup) one of the best courses I’ve played.”

Rumford said Victor Dubuisson, Tommy Fleetwood and Louis Oosthuizen would ensure there was a good contest between February 25 and 28.

Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen will return to defend his 2014 title and Salter Point resident Scott Strange will also take to the field.

The Perth International will include familyfriendly events such as a Quokka Cup putting competition for juniors, giant jenga and food trucks.

There will be 156 players from 28 countries vying for the prize money. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com.au.

Brett Rumford loves the Karrinyup course.
