ATTITUDES NEED TOUCH OF REALITY

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

THE older I get the more bemused I become at the attitude and antics of the Establishment. I was gobsmacked when I watched Cardinal George Pell give evidence at the Royal Commission into child sex abuse last week. He said the story of notorious paedophile priest Gerald Ridsdale’s crimes against children was not something that interested him. What? The trauma inflicted on children by one of your colleagues did not interest you much? He tried to take back the statement, or at least reshape his response, in later testimony but the damage had been done. Such blatant disregard from a man who is a pillar of the church was jaw dropping. It was much worse than when Joe Hockey said poor people would not be affected by the fuel tax because they did not own cars or drive very far. Anarchy is not the answer but there will be some sort of rebellion unless those in power get in touch with reality.
