Eagles dodge a Gold Coast bullet
WEST Coast claimed a dramatic three-point win over the Gold Coast Suns last Thursday thanks to a last gasp goal from Jeremy McGovern.
The Eagles trailed at every change in front of more than 5000 people at Arena Joondalup before a strong final quarter breeze helped last year’s runners up overcome an 18-point three-quarter time deficit.
It was not all good news for West Coast, with high-profile recruit Lewis Jetta struck down with a calf injury while Mitch Brown will be sweating on a finger complaint after missing most of last year with a knee injury.
Mark LeCras was one of West Coast’s best, as was former Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddis, while Aaron Hall and Trent McKenzie impressed for the Suns.
Gold Coast will return to Queensland to take on the Adelaide Crows on Friday while West Coast will host Essendon to round out the AFL’s preseason competition on Sunday.
Gold Coast's Jack Martin is run down by Eagle Sam Butler.
