Funding helps plan soar

THE Australian Islamic College has started a new leadership program thanks to a local government grant.

The City of Belmont Contribution Fund was established to provide limited financial support to groups in the City to help with community projects and initiatives.

Teacher Nuria Ushoroff applied for a grant with her Under A Wing Program, which she said was inspired by the West Coast Eagles.

“I wanted to start up a group of Year 6 students who could display leadership qualities to others in the school, whether it’s to be a mentor, a coach or an AFL student ambassador during footy season,” she said.

“We were lucky enough to receive $2000 to start up the program and provide students with special badges and shirts, and we’ve been working with the P&F committee so the students can help with fundraisers, breakfast days and represent the school in local community projects.”
