Dads spread the word on reading to kids

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

AQUINAS College Junior School welcomed dads to campus this month as part of an annual reading event.

The Dad’s Reading Morning was held at the college on March 18 with students and fathers sharing stories together.

Aquinas College junior school head Steven Males said the annual event was a great way to encourage reading among students.

“When boys see their dads reading they are encouraged to read themselves,” Dr Males said. “Research shows a father’s reading habits can heavily influence those of his son.”

Dr Males said the students enjoyed having their dads in the classroom to experience the stories with their peers.

“The Dad’s Reading Morning is a great chance for dads to come into the classroom and interact with the students, sharing stories from books and their own childhoods,” he said.

Year 4 student Calder Lea shared stories with dad David on Dads’ Reading Morning.
