Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - RESIDENTIAL -

WHETHER it is a desire to save the environment or save money, more people are looking into sustainable living.

However a lot of sustainability initiatives, such as installing a water tank or solar panels, seem to suit people living in houses rather than apartments.

Now, for the first time in Perth, apartment residents will have the opportunity to learn how to live a cleaner, greener and more cost-efficient lifestyle at the 2016 Perth Eco Fair.

Industry leaders in sustainability and conservation will hold a series of talks and demonstrations about the advantages of eco-friendly apartment living in Western Australia.

Organised by Psaros, the event will also include food stalls, live music and community garden tours.

Psaros head of sustainability Chiara Pacifici said it was the first event of its kind to look specifically at the environmental advantages of apartment living.

“This is especially relevant as our city transitions to a higher-density future where apartment living and the need for more sustainable households will become increasingly common,” she said.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to find out more about sustainable living in WA and how small changes to their daily routines can make a big difference to the environment and also savings to their hip pocket.”

The speakers include journalist and author Indira Naidoo, who will offer advice on how to grow and maintain your own edible balcony, and Conservation Council of WA director Piers Verstegen who will talk about the future of sustainable development in Perth.

Synergy will host demonstrations showing how to save electricity, car manufacturer Tesla will show why electric vehicles are the way of the future, and the Water Corporation will offer tips on how to achieve greater water efficiency at home.

Psaros managing director Mike Enslin said apartment living was an excellent way for people to reduce their carbon footprint and live a much more sustainable lifestyle.

The 2016 Perth Eco Fair will be held at Perth City Farm on Sunday, April 3 from 10am to 4pm.
