Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

A TEAM of year 7 and 8 students from Penrhos College took out first prize in a statewide mathematics competition.

The six girls won the Mathematical Association of WA’s Metro South Have Sum Fun Face-To-Face competition.

The winning team of Nahyun Kim, Aleta Houden, Priya Bhasin, Gabrielle Thompson, Menu Gamage and Jess Pridgeon raced against the clock to solve four intense rounds of problems.

The team was announced the winner ahead of 40 other teams. Another Penrhos team finished fifth.

Penrhos College maths mentor and STEM co-ordina- tor Peter Chandler said the competition provided a wonderful opportunity for students with strong mathematical abilities to work together in an engaging environment.

“I was very proud of the girls. They demonstrated great teamwork as well as their exceptional mathematical skills and abilities,” he said.

The members of the winning team show off their trophies.
