PERTH Redbacks’ newest US import has hit the court running. Jourdan DeMuynck says his priority is to bring the basketball team to victory.

THE Perth Redbacks newest import is ready to hit the court running with one clear goal for the season: to win.

California-born Jourdan DeMuynck (25) joined the East Victoria Park-based team this year, bringing an impressive repertoire of skills from his time as a professional college player in the United States.

He started training with the Redbacks a month ahead of the 2016 season and said his priority as a player was to win.

“My goal honestly is to win, first of all, then my personal goals are to lead the league in steals and I want to be a leader on the floor,” he said.

“I want to try and lead my team across every category; I like to be in the action every single possession.”

Redbacks head coach Nik Lackovic said DeMuynck added a special talent to the team.

“Jourdan has had an exceptional college career; he never seems to be in a hurry on the court, he creates so much time and space for himself and I think he’ll be a prolific scorer in this league,” he said.

“He likes the challenge on the defensive end of the floor and is an excellent leader, and he’s got great moral character as well.”

DeMuynck said his family was the driving force behind his competitive playing style on the court.

“Being the older child in a large family, I’m used to having people look up to me,” he said.

“My family drives me, drives my aggressive style of play and I don’t accept failure.”
