Forum flags public transport needs

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

ABOUT 70 City of Belmont residents had the ear of Opposition Leader Mark McGowan and Opposition transport spokeswoman Rita Saffioti at a Metronet forum in Belmont on April 4.

Residents discussed local transport issues and changes surrounding development area 6 to accommodate the new Forrestfield-Airport rail line.

Among the suggestions for improved public transport were more carparks near key stations, toilets and wheelchair access at all stations, and smaller and faster circle routes.

Mr McGowan said Labor’s Metronet forums were a key component of developing its vision for Perth.

“There is a desperate need for a clear vision and plan for the future of our transport system,” he said. “If we keep going with the current haphazard approach and lack of a co-ordinated plan, then our roads and our suburbs will seize up.”
