Tunnel plan guidelines

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

MEASURES to guide the bulk of buildings around the future Airport West underground tunnel will be included in a bill to be introduced to Parliament later this year.

City of Belmont’s development area 6 vision plan shows multi-storey residential developments close to the underground tunnel that will house the Forrestfield-Airport Link project.

But to protect the integrity of the underground tunnel, buildings will have to adhere to guidelines.

Planning Minister Donna Faragher responded to questions from East Metropolitan MLC Samantha Rowe on whether there was any concern from the Public Transport Authority about the distance between the proposed multistorey developments and the tunnel.

Ms Faragher said future legislation would ensure any landowner, developer and relevant planning authority observed controls to ensure the safety and protection of underground railway assets. A 30m wide monitoring corridor will be used to assess the noise and vibration effects of the tunnelling during construction.
