An­i­mal ac­tivist in WA for talk

AN­I­MAL rights ac­tivist Jill Robin­son will re­turn to Perth next month to speak at An­i­mal Asia’s char­ity din­ner.

Dr Robin­son will ap­pear at the Pagoda Ho­tel in Como for the An­i­mals Asia event, work­ing to raise funds for bears res­cued from the bile trade over­seas.

The founder, and now chief ex­ec­u­tive, of An­i­mals Asia, Dr Robin­son said her pas­sion was ig­nited in 1993 when she vis­ited a bear bile farm in south­ern China and in- stinc­tively touched the paw of a bear reach­ing out to her from a cage.

“It was that mo­ment I de­cided to start my cam­paign to end bear bile farm­ing and set up An­i­mals Aus­tralia,” she said.

Now more than 20 years later, Dr Robin­son has headed projects that have saved al­most 600 bears from bile farms in China and Viet­nam.

Dr Robin­son will de­liver a pre­sen­ta­tion at the char­ity din­ner on May 28.
