Oasis upgrade on council agenda
THE City of Belmont will consider a motion tonight to “immediately bring forward funding” to redevelop or refurbish the Oasis Leisure Centre.
The motion was prepared by Cr Patrick Gardner because he said the facility was “inadequate for the community’s current needs and is rapidly falling behind the community’s expectations”.
It reads: “That council immediately bring forward funding to plan for the redevelopment or significant refurbishment of the community leisure centre (currently the Belmont Oasis)”.
“The current long-term fi- nancial plans for the community leisure centre should also be brought forward following the commencement of this planning phase.”
A council report said consultation relating to the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre masterplan had started with an internal staff briefing this month.
“Further consultation with stakeholders and the wider community will be scheduled to take place over the next few months,” it said.
The ‘Belmont Oasis Master Plan’ will result in three concept designs that capture the outcomes and priorities.
The objectives of the project are to:
Assist the City and other providers to better understand the current and future community needs for aquatic and leisure facilities;
Provide the City and other providers with sound baseline information about the condition and availability of the existing infrastructure and services;
Assist the City in understanding the cost implications of a refurbished facility; and
Assist the City in understanding the various management models that can be considered.
