Volunteer always ready with a smile

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - STREET WATCH -

SHE might be in her 80s, but that has not stopped Donna Hall from dedicating her time to brightening the lives of people at Mercy Place in Lathlain.

The Bentley resident is approaching her fifth year of volunteering at the aged-care facility and will be recognised at National Volunteer Week next week.

Ms Hall (82) moved to Perth from Canada about 10 years ago and has volunteered at the Lathlain Mercy Health residential home.

During her time, she has developed many close relationships.

“I think you get what you give and I find volunteering my time extremely rewarding,” Ms Hall said.

“I’ve visited seniors in hospitals and retirement villages for many years and in doing so I have been given the opportunity to meet many wonderful people.

“I would recommend volunteering to anyone because there are so many benefits – it’s just a case of working out how you would most like to help.”

Mercy Health state manager Anita Ghose said the organisation valued its highly dedicated volunteers like Ms Hall.

“We have a wonderful group of highly committed volunteers of all ages and we are incredibly grateful for their support, as are our residents,” Ms Ghose said.
