‘Early settlers’ honoured with morning tea
THE Town of Victoria Park acknowledged its oldest residents late last month with a morning tea for those who have lived longest in the community.
Affectionately known as the early settlers, these residents have lived continuously in the Town’s suburbs for 50 years or more and currently live in the area.
This was the fourth time the Town has hosted an early settlers event.
The number of attendees has grown steadily over the years – from 71 at first in 2010 to 160 this year.
“These are people who have seen the Town grow and change immensely over the years that they have lived here,” Mayor Trevor Vaughan said.
“They have been the people who have shaped and transformed our community into the friendly, vibrant place it is today and I am honoured that we can take the time to recognise the valuable contribution that our longest residents have made, and continue to make to the community.”
