Police renew focus on crime
A TARGETED police operation is being coordinated from the Belmont police station.
Police Minister Liza Harvey said Operation Renew, which started in February, had been set up by the South East Metropolitan District local to focus on burglary, theft, stolen motor vehicles and domestic violence.
“An intelligence-led team of officers working out of Belmont police station have targeted emerging and current crime hot spots and prolific offenders,” Ms Harvey said.
“To date, Operation Renew has so far resulted in 28 arrests and 47 summonses for a total of 175 charges.”
The charges include burglary, stealing, stealing motor vehicles and possessing stolen property.
Ms Harvey said there had also been 216 vehicle stops that had resulted in a further 81 charges.
“The best result so far has been nine prolific offenders being detained and removed from the community,” she said.
