Aged care facility in need of volunteers

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - STREET WATCH -

MANNING-based aged care facility Southcare is calling for new volunteers to sign up for the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS).

CVS volunteers visit Southcare residents for about an hour each week to help improve their quality of life with friendship.

Visitors are being sought in the Perth’s south eastern suburbs. Among other things, volunteers chat, play cards, do jigsaw puzzles, share music and go on walks with the elderly.

Southcare’s CVS co-ordinator Vicki Morrell said some older people become isolated when they can no longer drive, their family are busy or they do not have family.

“Having a regular visitor makes such a difference to their lives and it has been heart-warming over the years to witness many longstanding friendships that develop through the scheme,” she said.

All volunteers require a police clearance, which is applied and paid for by Southcare.
