HELPING WOMEN SUCCEED
OPPORTUNITIES for women in the property industry continue to expand thanks to initiatives such as the Property Council of Australia’s 100 Women in Property sponsorship program, which recently launched its inaugural campaign.
The program aims to encourage established leaders, both women and men, to sponsor and mentor talented women in their organisation or business sphere.
Program participants gain access to their mentor’s networks to enhance their own visibility in the industry and develop future career opportunities.
Property Council chief operating officer Kathy MacDermott said the program was oversubscribed and reflected the industry’s enthusiasm for measures that boosted diversity.
“We set out to attract 100 participants in our first year and we’ve already exceeded this target,” she said.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by nominations from people who want to participate and our industry leaders who are keen to support great female talent.
“We are extremely excited to have well over 100 women in the first year of this program, which runs until December.”
Psaros head of property management Beauty Bwembya said she decided to join the program to promote diversity across the industry.
“I am excited to be a part of the program and have already learnt more about the vision and aim of 100 Women in Property and my sponsor’s commitment to helping myself and other women under her mentorship build their networks and plan their development in the industry and careers,” she said.
Ms Bwembya is mentored by Psaros head of sustainability Chiara Pacifici, who also sits on the Women and Diversity in Property committee at the Property Council and championed the program with staff at Psaros.
“Psaros is committed to supporting women in the property industry and help them progress to leadership positions in our organisation,” Ms Pacifici said.
“We have 15 women in higher management roles and five in management roles, and are one of the first organisations to participate in this newly formed 100 Women Property Council program.
“We will also be participating in a number of networking and professional development events in the near future.”
