More Red­backs for All-Star games

MORE Perth Red­backs play­ers have been se­lected for the North­ern squad at the 2016 SBL All-Star Game next week.

Women’s cap­tain Jess Jak­ens and shooter Re­becca Ben­son were added to the line-up that al­ready in­cludes team­mate Ajay Jones.

Star im­port player Jour­dan DeMuynck and long-time cap­tain Joel Wag­ner were added to the squad from the men’s team.

Jak­ens has had one of her best sea­sons this year, av­er­ag­ing 14.45ppg with a 50.9 per cent shoot­ing per­cent­age and 9.45rpg.

In her de­but sea­son with the Red­backs, Ben­son has led the side in scor­ing with 17ppg, as well as be­ing one of the league’s best distrib­u­tors with 4.5apg, 3.9rbg and 87 per cent suc­cess rate on free throws.

DeMuynck has av­er­aged big num­bers, in­clud­ing 26.5ppg, 10.2rpg and 4.28apg and has been one of the most dom­i­nant fig­ures in the SBL 2016 sea­son.

Hav­ing been leader of the club for years, Wag­ner has man­aged con­sis­tent num­bers, in­clud­ing 13.1ppg, 5.64apg and 3.85rpg. Pic­tures: Clare Chap­pell

The All-Star Game pits the North­ern All-Stars against the South­ern All-Stars and will play at the Ben­dat Bas­ket­ball Cen­tre on Mon­day.

All money raised on the day will be do­nated to Life­line WA.

PERTH Red­backs SBL player Lisa Wall­but­ton is on a jour­ney to com­pete in the Rio Olympics.

Ear­lier this month, Wall­but­ton was named one of the 14 play­ers to be se­lected for the New Zealand Tall Ferns squad.

Wall­but­ton will take part in in­ter­na­tional tour­ing matches through­out China and Europe, aim­ing to be se­lected for the fi­nal team.

The fi­nal squad will com­pete at an Olympic qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ment in France next month.
