Cameras to cut crime

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

THE City of Belmont will receive $45,640 for the installation of four CCTV Cameras at a key industrial precinct on Abernathy Road in Cloverdale.

Swan MP Steve Irons said the funding had been allocated from the second round of the Federal Government’s Safer Streets program.

Mr Irons said the cameras would help prevent theft and assist police in finding and prosecuting those who chose to steal from this local industrial area.

“These CCTV cameras will add to the 27 cameras around Belmont Forum and Village Centre which were installed with funding from round one of the Safer Streets Program,” Mr Irons said.

Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan, who visited Cloverdale last week, said the funding was drawn from the Proceeds of Crime Account.

“That is money taken from criminals and reinvested into prevention of further crime,” Mr Keenan said.

“The Coalition will continue to reinvest money confiscated from criminals and put it towards projects that make our streets and communities safer.”
