Monaghetti for Perth marathon
BURSWOOD-based West Australian Marathon Club (WAMC) will welcome running royalty to an event at the end of the month.
More than 1000 runners will take part in the Perth marathon and about 300 junior runners will attempt the kid’s marathon.
Acclaimed runner Steve Monaghetti has stepped in to be an ambassador for the marathon, which will be held on June 26.
Monaghetti boasts of running a marathon in two hours and eight minutes and a half marathon in just over an hour.
He has competed in the Commonwealth Games, the Olympic Games and has set a number of national records.
Monaghetti’s last race representing Australia was the Sydney 2000 Olympic Marathon where he finished 10th.
Other special guest runners from Japan, Masahiro Fujita and Mei Matsuyama, will be competing as part of the WA and Hyogo Prefecture Marathon Exchange program. This year marks the 35th anniversary for the sister state agreement.
