Mon­aghetti for Perth marathon

BURSWOOD-based West Aus­tralian Marathon Club (WAMC) will wel­come run­ning roy­alty to an event at the end of the month.

More than 1000 run­ners will take part in the Perth marathon and about 300 ju­nior run­ners will at­tempt the kid’s marathon.

Ac­claimed run­ner Steve Mon­aghetti has stepped in to be an am­bas­sador for the marathon, which will be held on June 26.

Mon­aghetti boasts of run­ning a marathon in two hours and eight min­utes and a half marathon in just over an hour.

He has com­peted in the Com­mon­wealth Games, the Olympic Games and has set a num­ber of na­tional records.

Mon­aghetti’s last race rep­re­sent­ing Aus­tralia was the Syd­ney 2000 Olympic Marathon where he fin­ished 10th.

Other spe­cial guest run­ners from Ja­pan, Masahiro Fu­jita and Mei Mat­suyama, will be com­pet­ing as part of the WA and Hyogo Pre­fec­ture Marathon Ex­change pro­gram. This year marks the 35th an­niver­sary for the sis­ter state agree­ment.
