Fined for negligence
A WATERFORD builder was fined $2500 for negligent conduct for work he carried out on a Bullcreek property between August and December 2013.
The Building Services Board found Nicholas Hunter was negligent in that he performed the work without providing a complying written contract to the owner and he entered into the contract that allowed him to receive a deposit of more than 6.5 per cent of the total work value of work.
He also performed building work without a building permit from the City of Melville, but has since obtained a retrospective approval.
The contract Mr Hunter entered into was for structural work valued at more than $14,700 in the kitchen, bathroom and games room.
Mr Hunter had demanded a deposit of 70 per cent of the total.
Building Commissioner Peter Gow said it was the responsibility of anyone carrying out building work to be aware of their legal obligations.
