Residents to help with parking plan
THE City of South Perth is looking for help from residents to shape a parking plan around the South Perth Station Precinct.
Up to 10 residents have been invited to join a working party to help develop the Parking Management Plan, which will act as guide for the council.
The precinct is located between Richardson and Darley streets to the south and east, and Scott Street and Frasers Lane to the north.
The plan aims to identify changes that need to be made to the existing parking management and to look at any future requirements for parking.
Mayor Sue Doherty said the plan was essential for the management of the limited number of parking spaces around the precinct.
“One of the key aims is to ensure that priority is provided for those who are either living in or visiting the precinct over those who choose to park in South Perth and then commute to the CBD,” she said.
“As the population and volume of traffic moving through the City and South Perth Station Precinct increases, undertaking proper planning and effectively managing parking is critical.
“The development of a Parking Management Plan for the precinct aims to address current and future parking needs while working towards minimising congestion.”
Ms Doherty said the 10 people on the working party must live within the precinct or close by.
“Ideally the members of the working party will have local knowledge of the parking situation but have an open mind to consider other points of view and embrace the challenge as a team rather than a group of individuals with a single agenda,” she said.
“The residents responding to the invitation will provide a brief synopsis of the challenge that will be facing them and how they can make a positive contribution.
“The working party will also involve the wider community by seeking their opinions, views and ideas at workshops and via written submissions.”
