Message not wasted

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

URSULA Frayne Catholic College junior school students are seeing the benefits of recycling after taking part in a Cleanaway program.

The program is funded by the Town of Victoria Park and is intended to educate participants about waste minimisation and management through implementing reduce, reuse and recycle principles.

Ursula Frayne Catholic College Year 3 teacher Rosemarie Genovese said her class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the program in June and had continued to be waste-wise in the classroom and at home.

“The program was terrific; the children loved the interactive sessions and found the experience to be most worthwhile, sharing what they had learnt with family,” she said.

Presented by a professional Cleanaway educator, the program consists of two 60-minute sessions delivered over two weeks and is suitable for children aged from preprimary to Year 6.

Mayor Trevor Vaughan said the council was fortunate to be able to educate children about the importance of creating a sustainable community and providing them examples of how they could include environmentally friendly behaviours into their own lives.

The program directly links in with the Australian curriculum and engages students in the learning process through stimulating and practical activities.

No preparation is required and all primary schools within the Town of Victoria Park are eligible to register for the program at no cost.
