Plaque hon­ours role of Navy in Viet­nam

BEL­MONT RSL sub-branch mem­bers will at­tend the un­veil­ing of a plaque to com­mem­o­rate the ser­vice of the Royal Aus­tralian Navy dur­ing the Viet­nam War on Au­gust 20.

The ser­vice will be held at the City of Stir­ling Gar­dens war me­mo­rial as part of the 50th an­niver­sary of the Bat­tle of Long Tan.

Bel­mont RSL vice-pres­i­dent Steve Toon said the Navy’s part in the Viet­nam War was sig­nif­i­cant but rarely men­tioned.

Mr Toon will also be plac­ing a wreath at the Flame of Re­mem­brance at Kings Park on Au­gust 27 for the Malayan Bor­neo Vet­er­ans’ Merdeka com­mem­o­ra­tive ser­vice.
