Pitch good to grow

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

CONTRACTOR HG Sports Turf has been appointed to prepare the pitch, grow and install more than 17,000sqm of turf for the Perth Stadium playing surface.

The grass will be grown in Serpentine and is expected to be laid in mid-2017.

Premier Colin Barnett and Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies were on-site on September 1 with senior representatives from Football Federation Australia, ahead of the Socceroo’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Iraq at Perth Oval last week.

“The playing surface for the 60,000-seat stadium is a hugely important element of the project,” Mr Barnett said.

Ms Davies said the turf was also used in Perth Oval and received rave reviews from players - including the Socceroos.

The Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct is on schedule to open in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season.
