Promis­ing news on tummy tucks

HEALTH Min­is­ter John Day has in­di­cated pub­lic hos­pi­tals in WA may pro­vide tummy tucks for women who do not fit tight­ened Medi­care cri­te­ria for the pro­ce­dure, but only if there is a med­i­cal need.

This is promis­ing news for Vic­to­ria Park’s Ruth Unni who can­celled pri­vate surgery af­ter Medi­care changes left her fac­ing a $20,000 bill to have an ab­domino­plasty to ad­dress se­vere back pain, her­nia, a cyst and in­con­ti­nence.

Women would need to see their GP to be re­ferred to a spe­cial­ist.
