Hair cut for good cause

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

LOCKS of hair were lost and money was raised to help build houses in Indonesia during Aquinas College’s World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser.

Clippers, scissors and hair dye were all on hand on June 30 to complete the fundraising task which saw students raise more than $2000 to fund the construction of two houses in a small Balinese village.

Former student Mitch Gillam, who tragically lost his life in Bali in 2010 aged 20, inspired the fundraising project.

The village was a favourite of Mitch’s and his family now works tirelessly to support it through the Mitch Gillam Fund.

Aquinas College pastoral care deputy principal Paula Bacchiella said the day was a great success, with students having a lot of fun raising money for a very worthy cause.

“It was a great afternoon of fun and laughs where boys of all ages across the senior school had a great time cheering each other along as heads were shaved and coloured, all for a great cause,” she said.

Year 11 student James Caspersz-Loney is ready to give student Jack Gorman a haircut while pastoral care deputy principal Paula Bacchiella looks on.
