Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

I NEVER write letters to the newspaper, but what is happening in South Perth is just obscene.

I understand the need for infill in our city, but I expected this to mean rational development in line with local community needs and standards.

Instead, South Perth has become the target of rapacious developers who want to turn Mill Point Road into Shanghai in order to fill their own pockets.

The plans for 74 and 86 Mill Point Road are simply hideous and are insupportable, just for traffic and infrastructure reasons alone.

Now developers are trying to build another tower on Lyle Street and asking for discretion, as if the building is in some way exceptional, when it clearly isn’t.

Mega-towers are not beneficial to the area and will leave our community with traffic and infrastructure problems for decades to come, quite apart from the destruction of the amenity of our streets and lifestyle.

When will the State Government step in? Enough is enough. COLIN BOWLES, South Perth.
