AN agree­ment has been struck with the City of Bel­mont to ear­mark a part of Wil­son Park in River­vale for a com­mu­nity gar­den.

AN agree­ment has been struck with the City of Bel­mont to ear­mark a part of Wil­son Park in River­vale for a com­mu­nity gar­den.

Bel­mont Com­mu­nity Grow­ers mem­ber San­dra May­nard said the aim was to in­cor­po­rate it into the mas­ter plan be­ing de­vel­oped for the area.

“While ini­tially en­vis­aged as a pop-up gar­den, the group hopes that it will be­come a per­ma­nent fea­ture for the com­mu­nity,” Ms May­nard said.

Fol­low­ing on from the ini­tial work of founders Mike Al­teruth­meyer, Felic­ity Hatzis and oth­ers, re­tired hor­ti­cul­tur­al­ist Ms May­nard re­cently stepped in to help.

A com­mu­nity meet­ing about the pro­posed gar­den will be held at the River­vale Com­mu­nity Cen­tre on Fran­cisco Street on Sun­day, Novem­ber 20 from 3pm to 5pm.

The aim is for the group to be­come an in­cor­po­rated body and be el­i­gi­ble for ma­jor fund­ing grants.
